Chapter 7 - Creating a New Country

Hi grade 7's

Today you will be starting to look at the next chapter, and some of the reasons behind  Canada becoming a country. There are two assignments for you to complete over the long weekend. the first is a vocabulary sheet with words and terms you need to know for this chapter, the second is a map of what the political boundaries were in British North America in 1849-1867

First of all discuss what representative government means? How does it work?

What are the Acts that led to the British North America Act?
(Proclamation Act, Quebec Act, Constitutional Act, Act of Union, British North America Act)

Take a look at the following map:

Map of British North America in 1849

Why did Britain only focus on unity of the eastern colonies?

Why were British Columbia and Rupert's Land not included?

How were the colonies similar?

Look at Figure 7.2 in your textbook,
Why might the four Atlantic provinces feel they might be less important in a Federal Government located in Central Canada?

Complete the map and the definitions for homework.
