The Battle for North America

Hi Grade 7's

This next chapter is all about military conquests, fighting wars and deportation. Did you realize that Canada has such a dark history? Well, in this chapter you are going to understand how military events and their consequences contributed to the foundations of Canada.

WAR

War involves the use of organized force on a large scale to attain a goal."

Take five minutes and jot down any wars you have studied or read bout and answer the following questions:

  • Who were the opposing sides?
  • What was the goal of the war?
  • What was the outcome?
  • Overall, what are some factors that can lead countries to war?

SUPERPOWER -  What is it? (Page 98)

Unlike Superman here, it is a country that is wealthier and more powerful than almost any other country


Find evidence that France and England were superpowers during the colonial era.





Take a look at the talking heads on page 99.

As a class discuss the following:
What would war between France and England mean for this person?
How would this person be affected if the French took control of the continent? What if the English did?
